About the Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Race for the CureŽ
Series raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast
cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have
lost their battle with the disease. With funds raised by the Komen Race
for the CureŽ Series, the Komen Foundation with its Affiliate Network is
able to fund breast cancer research, education and treatment programs
in communities around the world. Since its origination in Dallas, Texas,
in 1983, the Komen Race for the CureŽ Series has grown from one local
Race with 800 participants to a series of more than 100 Races with more
than one million people expected to participate in 2006. This year marks
the 16th Anniversary of the Komen New York City race for the CureŽ.
The Komen New York City Race for the CureŽ had over 20,000 participants
in 2005 and raised approximately $4 million.
